Arm lift/ brachioplasty
A brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure that reduces drooping excess skin, tightens the underlying supportive tissue that defines the arm, and diminishes localized pockets of fat in the upper arm region. It is ideal for those who have experienced dramatic weight loss, like following gastric bypass surgery, and those who have lose elasticity in their skin as a result of aging or genetics. This procedure is recommended for men and women in good general health. If you are prone to hypertrophic scarring or keloid formation, do let your surgeon know.
The incisions are discrete and made in the underarm or along the inner arm. Liposuction may be used as an adjunct to help with improved contour and allow for greater skin excision. Surgery is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Drains and compression garment may be utilized. Common side effects include swelling and bruising. Avoiding strenuous upper body activity for 4-6 weeks will be recommended for optimal wound healing.
